Prospective iPad Pro May Have a Landscape Face ID Cameras
According to code in iOS 17.4 that MacRumors contributor Steve Moser uncovered, Apple’s next iPad Pro is probably going to come with a landscape Face ID camera.
The iPad must be in landscape mode in order for the camera at the top of the screen to scan the code during Face ID setup.
Apple relocated the front-facing camera of the 10th generation iPad to the side of the device so that it could be used in landscape mode rather than portrait mode, and it looks like the company will continue to do this with subsequent iPad versions.
The code suggests that Apple is moving the front-facing camera from the top of the tablet to the side because the iPad Pro is the only iPad model that currently supports Face ID. However, it’s also plausible that this modification applied to the iPad Air because Apple may be bringing Face ID to that tablet.
Relocating the camera makes sense because Apple has long positioned the iPad Pro as a Mac substitute that is commonly used in an orientation that is horizontal as opposed to a vertical one.
According to Rumors, Apple could release new iPad Air and iPad Pro models as early as April.
